Premiere! Festive start of construction for the first innovative School by Schools by CircleWood®

Friday, January 17, was the beginning of the construction of Schools by CircleWood®'s very first innovative school and the first school realised under the Innovation Partnership for School Buildings in Amsterdam.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the youngest and oldest students of primary school Wisperweide in Weesp handed over a time capsule to Schools by CircleWood®. Its contents? Drawings from all students, filled with ideas about their future. This special event marks a unique milestone in history: the beginning of the construction of Schools by CircleWood®'s very first innovative school and the first school realised under the Innovation Partnership for School Buildings in Amsterdam.

Innovation in construction

Wisperweide is the first school to use Schools by CircleWood®’s patented Wood Core Construction Method©. In addition to incorporating a large amount of renewable materials, the school buildings are designed to be easily dismantled and reused. This innovative concept extends the lifecycle of building materials and reduces waste, contributing to a circular economy and a more sustainable future.

A building where children learn, explore, play, and collaborate

Schools by CircleWood® is proud to contribute to creating a pleasant and healthy learning environment for children – the sustainability ambassadors of our future.

Monica Groenendaal, principal of primary school Wisperweide, is enthusiastic about the new school: "We have carefully considered our educational vision and the design of our new school building. The design perfectly aligns with our teaching methods. Our motto, ‘Together Every Child Learns More,’ can be truly realised in the new building. All students and staff are looking forward to the new space, where they can learn, explore, play, and collaborate effectively!"

Building more sustainably

Schools by CircleWood® was born out of the necessity to build more sustainably. Our methods are continually tested and developed to meet stringent sustainability standards. Thanks to this approach, Schools by CircleWood® can make accurate environmental impact predictions as early as the design phase. We continuously monitor sustainability performance and provide substantiated reports on CO2 emissions, disassembly potential, and responsible material use.

A healthy future

Schools by CircleWood® is part of CircleWood®, which harnesses the power of wood for the buildings of today and tomorrow. Wood creates a healthy, attractive, and sustainable environment for living, working, learning, and living. This natural material offers a warm atmosphere, excellent insulation, and contributes to lower CO2 emissions. Together, we reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to better learning environments – for current and future generations.

The Schools by CircleWood® ecosystem includes the operating companies of Oosterhoff (ABT bv, Adviesbureau Lüning, and bbn adviseurs), Frisobouwgroep, Heko Spanten Ede B.V., Lomans Amersfoort, Adviesbureau DWA, Hedgehog Company, OMA, and Studio A Kwadraat.
