Carbon offset consulting

Minimise your CO₂ emissions and then give back to the Earth. We advise you on reliable compensation and nature restoration partners.

Humanity has been emitting greenhouse gases such as CO₂ for about 150 years. This has led to a massive accumulation of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, and these gasses won't just disappear.

By allowing companies to continue with fossil CO₂ emissions and 'offset' them through CO₂ compensation, we miss our chance to reduce the CO₂ in our atmosphere, while it may not be too late.

However, simply stopping emissions is not enough. To stabilise the climate, we need to both remove the excess greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and restore devastated nature.

We see the world as a large system where humans, nature, and climate are closely interconnected. A healthy natural environment is the foundation for a stable climate. Trees not only absorb CO₂ but also influence rainfall, store water, and provide cooling.

Therefore, we believe that climate protection goes beyond just CO₂ reduction; it involves addressing environmental pollution, restoring biodiversity, and strengthening ecosystems worldwide.

Carbon credits are not a real solution.

We prefer not to work with carbon credits. Companies can 'buy off' their emissions with carbon credits, but we believe this actually works counterproductively against real climate action. Often, companies purchase credits instead of actually reducing their emissions. At the end of the day, no real climate benefit is achieved.

Lack of real climate action: Companies often see compensation as a substitute for reducing their own emissions.

Minimal impact: Research shows that about 90% of projects under Verra, one of the main certifiers, do not achieve the promised reductions.

Single-minded focus on CO₂: Climate protection requires a holistic approach to biodiversity and nature restoration, not just a focus on CO₂.

Unrealistically low prices: Cheap credits (sometimes as low as $2 per ton) unfairly compete with more expensive nature restoration projects that are actually effective.

Risk of reputation damage: Misleading compensation claims are increasingly leading to legal problems and reputation damage.

The problem with conventional CO₂ compensation.

Essentially, CO₂ compensation often amounts to trying to "offset" the emissions from an activity by preventing or capturing a similar amount of emissions elsewhere. This is often done by funding projects that remove CO₂ from the atmosphere or prevent additional CO₂ from being released.

These are wonderful initiatives, but they often fail to deliver on their promise—effectively removing CO₂ from the atmosphere:

For example, it takes about 20 years for a tree to absorb the promised amount of CO₂, and what happens to that 'compensated' CO₂ if the forest burns down?

Terms like CO₂ compensation, Carbon Neutral, and Net-Zero give an impression of certainty, but the promised results are often uncertain or not achieved at all.

There is no guarantee that one ton of compensation actually equates to one ton of avoided or removed CO₂ emissions. Even high-quality and transparent projects cannot provide this certainty.

Planted trees can die, be cut down, or burn in a forest fire, resulting in the compensated climate benefit being easily lost.

Opt for climate contribution.

Claims like Net-Zero or Carbon Neutral combined with CO₂ compensation are outdated: protecting trees to compensate for your fuel consumption is incorrect. We prefer climate contribution. We believe in supporting projects that truly contribute to nature restoration and sustainable management.

Instead of compensating, with Climate Contribution you choose a transparent and sincere approach. You invest in sustainable, local projects that contribute to healthy ecosystems and biodiversity, or have social impact with a long-term vision. This addresses the root of the climate problem and contributes to a resilient planet.

With the right climate contribution, you focus not only on CO₂ reduction but on restoring entire ecosystems.

Avoid misleading claims and greenwashing

Choose real impact and be transparent.

Transparent and honest about your climate goals

With Climate Contribution, you are transparent and honest about your climate ambitions.

Contribute to nature restoration and reduce your emissions – for a healthy planet.

We collaborate with our carefully selected partners and projects. These are projects that we believe truly contribute to nature restoration, extract CO₂, and positively impact the local community.

Our compensation partners

Regreener

Regreener has an extensive portfolio of CO₂ compensation projects, both locally and internationally. The verification standards include the Gold Standard and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), as well as other high-quality projects focused on reforestation in the Netherlands, Kenya, and Mozambique. In addition to CO₂ impact, Regreener also considers biodiversity and socio-economic impact when supporting projects.

FORLIANCE

FORLIANCE is an expert in forestry, climate, and sustainability and forms partnerships to contribute to climate protection, biodiversity, and human well-being. They provide knowledge and experience to make every step of your climate strategy ethical, professional, and effective.

The Green Branch

The Green Branch encourages companies to participate in landscape restoration and reforestation projects to make a positive change. They work on forestry plans for degraded lands in subtropical areas. The reforestation method used ensures CO₂ storage, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and financial stability for local farmers. The projects of The Green Branch are certified through the Verified Carbon Standard by Verra.

Black Jaguar Foundation

The Black Jaguar Foundation (BJF) has a clear goal: to realise 1.7 billion trees in the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor in Brazil. This corridor stretches over a distance of 2600 kilometers, from south to north, along the Rio Araguaia. This restoration project is one of the largest in South America. The BJF employs a highly structured and systematic approach focused on replanting the right native tree species adapted to the local environment.
