Conference of the European Build-in-Wood network

Last Thursday marked the final conference of the European Build-in-Wood network in Copenhagen! The keynote focused on "Making wood a natural choice - what does it take?" presented by the Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam. Our Senior Expert Sustainable Construction, Imme Groet, attended the event. Together with Bob van der Zande, who presented the keynote.

The three key learnings from recent years were summarized as follows:

  1. Leverage the power of triple helix collaboration
  2. Set clear and concrete goals and measure progress
  3. Commit to long-term objectives

During this conference, cities shared lessons learned and multi-year research.

A beautiful design guide was created as a result: https://design-guide.build-in-wood.eu/

Waugh Thistleton Architects have developed some very practical open-source design guides, which are available for download here: https://waughthistleton.com/research/

Rothoblass presented in-depth research on wood and steel combinations. These are being tested in the Build-in-Wood Demonstrator, at the site of the Danish Technological Institute: https://www.build-in-wood.eu/post/the-build-in-wood-demonstrator

And fortunately, the research does not stop here. Timber construction research will continue in the next two European networks: Woodcircles and Timberhouse.
