Construction

The global construction sector is one of the largest emitters of CO₂ and is responsible for a significant share of the total use of natural resources. To meet climate targets, this sector must undergo fundamental change. Innovation and the sustainability of building materials and processes are crucial in this regard.

We have extensive experience with projects in the construction sector. For example, we have conducted LCA's for various construction companies and manufacturers of building materials and GWW (civil engineering) products. These range from wooden and concrete modules for modular housing, mooring poles and sheet piles to insulation materials, laminated timber, and systems such as boilers and expansion vessels.

In lifecycle analyses (LCA's) of building materials, we apply the EN15804 standard and the Dutch NMD determination methods.

Thanks to our work, LCA's and EPDs have been included in various (inter)national EPD databases, such as Environdec, the Dutch National Environmental Database (NMD), MRPI, and the German Institut für Bauen und Umwelt. Hedgehog is listed as an EPD consultant at Environdec, and two of our LCA specialists are recognised as verifiers for the Dutch NMD.

We also assist with tenders by performing MPG and BCI calculations, enabling our clients to meet sustainability criteria and increase their chances of winning bids.

In addition to conducting impact assessments, we actively support manufacturers in making their product or construction system more sustainable. We do this by providing targeted advice on raw materials, product design, and production processes to minimise environmental impact.
