To stay connected with other organisations and developments in the field, Hedgehog Company is a partner in various network and knowledge platforms. Recently, we joined two additional initiatives; NEN, the Royal Dutch Standardization Institute, and ECO Platform.

What is NEN?

NEN, the Royal Dutch Standardization Institute, brings together stakeholders to make and record agreements in standards and guidelines through national and international standardization committees.

NEN operates through various committees and groups that monitor standardization trajectories. Hedgehog Company has joined one of these new standard committees; focused on climate reporting, the reporting and measuring of greenhouse gases, and sustainability claims.

Such a committee consists of experts who contribute from different perspectives. These are experts from the business community, as well as broader fields such as consultancy firms and knowledge institutions. Hedgehog Company has been approached for this committee due to its LCA expertise.

Rik Wessels: "The market is evolving; sustainability is becoming increasingly important and legislation on it is tightening. And customers are asking us for guidance; how can you sustainably and effectively improve? And make the right claims about it? LCAs are a good starting point for this; because you have specific and fact-based insights. It's interesting to play a role within this standard committee from this perspective."

ECO-Platform: Towards Reliable Product Data in Construction

ECO-Platform specifically targets the construction sector, aiming to provide reliable and verified product data for producing LCAs and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).

In late May, colleagues Rik Wessels and Saro Campisano attended the annual meeting of ECO-Platform where, among other things, information was shared by the European Commission about the upcoming Construction Products Regulation, CPR.
