Timber construction plays a crucial role in creating a sustainable and future-proof built environment. This was clearly reflected in the insights shared by different stakeholders across the entire real estate chain: from responsible forest management and innovative prefab techniques in Estonia to the ambitious goals of the Municipality of Amsterdam and developer and builder BAM Wonen.
Inspiring examples, such as the Nelson Mandela neighborhood by Eigen Haard and the sustainable investment strategies of Achmea Real Estate, demonstrated how various players in the construction and operational phases contribute to this timber construction revolution.
Key take-aways
Here are some key takeaways from our session “MRA: Unlocking Timber Construction – 5 Top speakers bring you up to speed”:
- Set ambitious goals for your organization. The Municipality of Amsterdam is working towards 20% timber construction by 2025, while BAM aims for 100% biobased construction by 2050.
- To achieve ambitious targets, leaders must take the initiative and communicate a clear vision within their organization. Internal ambassadors also play a key role in driving change.
- Estonia is at the forefront of timber construction and prefab renovation. A significant amount of wood is responsibly sourced from Estonia and surrounding countries without harming the ecosystem.
It was great to gather with so many engaged stakeholders for a day of discussions on two urgent themes: rapidly increasing housing supply through innovative housing concepts and effectively accommodating specific target groups.
A big thank you to the speakers for your inspiring contributions!
