Klimaatadaptatie CAS 2021

Climate adaptation? Better to prevent than to cure.

This week the Netherlands organized the Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021, with dozens of world leaders and organizations involved, the Netherlands wants to take steps to better prepare our world for the consequences of climate change through climate adaptation.

Climate adaptation is the process of reducing the impact of climate change on society. For example, consider making the Afsluitdijk climate-proof by raising it. It is an adaptation of the infrastructure to be able to absorb the climate consequences. Everything under the slogan ‘the climate is changing, we change with it’. However, it stands in contrast to climate mitigation. In other words, prevention is better than cure. 2020 was the hottest year on record.

While the rest of the world is warming by 1 degrees, the Netherlands is warming twice as fast. Despite various climate summits like this, CO2 emissions continue to rise worldwide (with the exception of the current corona situation).

In short, taking action for climate adaptation is very important, but we must not forget that we want to be CO2 neutral in the EU by 2050. This is where our mission as a Hedgehog Company comes from, to ensure that climate adaptation will be minimally required, we set this target by 2030.
